CANNELTON—Hancock County scored in each of the first six innings to beat Cannelton 10-2 in baseball Monday.
“We just gave up too many two-out runs,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “We’d make a couple of nice plays to get two outs and then we’d give up a run on a hit, an error or a passed ball.”
Hancock County outhit the Bulldogs 12-3 and committed no errors to the Bulldogs’ three.
Tristan Simmons went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in a run to lead the Bulldogs’ offense. Bryce Garrett had their other hit and RBI.
Simmons pitched the first four innings for Cannelton to take the loss. He gave up six hits and four walks and struck out two.
“Tristan didn’t throw too bad,” said Mike Garrett. “But one inning he hit their No. 8 or 9 batter with one out and he ended up scoring with two outs. It’s just little things here and there that add up.”
Jeff Kendall relieved Simmons and gave up six hits and one walk and struck out one in 21⁄3 innings.
Larry Holman got the last two outs, walking two and striking out two.
Cannelton, 5-7, will host Crothersville for a doubleheader Saturday at 10 a.m.
