WASHINGTON, D.C. - Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, the wholesale energy provider for Southern Indiana Power, will receive $195 million of $1.8 billion in loans to build and repair 7,600 miles of distribution and transmission lines serving 90,000 rural customers in 26 states.
Thirty-three rural utilities will receive loans under the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development's utilities programs under the 1936 Rural Electrification Act.
