Herzog completes Marine recruit training

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. – Marine Corps PFC Spencer J. Herzog graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Deport, Parris Island Nov. 21.

The 13-weeek course included close-order drill, marksmanship with M-16A4 riffles, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies. Herzog was also honored with an award for the highest shooter in his platoon.
One week prior to graduation, Herzog endured the Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits’ minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.
Herzog is a 2011 graduate of Cannelton High School. He was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Attending his Marine Corps graduation were his parents, Chris and Karen Herzog; his grandparents Norman and Judy Herzog and Mary and Gordy Aders, and Kassie Linne and son, Ashton.
