LEOPOLD—Stephen Hayes pitched a three-hitter as Perry Central beat Cannelton 8-1 in baseball Thursday.

Perry Central improved to 14-8, tying the school record for most wins set in 2006 and 2007.

Ethan Herzog, the second batter of the game, hit a home run for Cannelton. It hit the top of the left-field fence and then bounced on the other side of the fence.

Hayes shut the Bulldogs out the rest of the way, though, as he raised his record to 3-0.

He walked none, struck out nine, and retired the last 14 batters he faced.

Jordan Mattingly shut out Perry Central for the first two innings and gave up only seven hits and two walks for the game. He struck out two.

Clint Cassidy hit two doubles for Perry Central.

Austin Hauser added two singles and a sacrifice fly, and Deejay Shaw hit an RBI triple in the fifth inning.

Perry Central will host Heritage Hills today at 4:30 p.m. and will face Tell City in the Tell City sectional Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Cannelton, 3-17, will play Tecumseh in the Tecumseh sectional Friday at 5 p.m.
