INDIANAPOLIS—Perry Central senior T.J. Hall made two all-state football teams last week as a linebacker.

Hall was one of four linebackers named to the Associated Press’ Class A all-state team released Thursday.

He was one of six linebackers named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association’s Class A senior all-state team Friday.

Another Perry Central player, Mikey Wilkerson, was one of three linebackers named to the IFCA’s Class A junior all-state team Friday.

Hall and Wilkerson also started at running back for the Commodores, and Perry Central Coach Mike Spencer said he nominated them at both positions for the coaches’ all-state teams.

But the fact that they basically split the Commodores’ rushing statistics while some teams relied predominantly on one back may have hurt their chances of making all-state at that position.

“They both rushed for over 1,000 yards, but there were a lot of 1,000-yard rushers statewide,” said Spencer.

They were also key members of the Commodores’ defense, which finished sixth in the state (third in Class A) in fewest points allowed, at 6.91 points per game, this season after leading the state in that category last year.

They did not give up more than 14 points in any game the last two years.

“When you take a look at our defense over the years, we’ve been very stingy at giving things up,” said Spencer. “Defensively we’ve been excellent for a good period of time.”

Hall led that defense this season with 69 tackles in 10 games (statistics for the sectional semifinal game against North Daviess were not available) and Wilkerson was close behind in second place with 66 tackles.

Hall made three sacks and one interception and forced one fumble.

Wilkerson made three interceptions and one sack and forced one fumble.

North Daviess senior Ryan Webster, whom the Commodores held under 100 yards rushing in sectional games each of the last two years, made the AP team and coaches’ senior team at running back.

Jano Davis of North Daviess made the AP team at linebacker.

Hall received honorable mention at running back on the AP team and teammate Dane Ransom received honorable mention at tight end.

The coaches’ all-state teams were selected by a committee that included at least one coach from each sectional, as well as some at-large members.
