INDIANAPOLIS—Perry Central’s Sydney Goffinet and Grace James were named to the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association’s Class 2A first-team all-state volleyball team announced Thursday.
ICGSA voters select 12 players to the first team and 12 to the second team in each class. Perry Central’s Brittany Parker made the second team as Perry Central had Perry County’s best representation ever on the all-state teams.
Perry Central’s Lacy Edwards in 1998 and Dana Genet in 2004 are the only other Perry Countians to ever make the first team. Tell City’s McKenzie Hayes, who is now a starter for NCAA Division I University of Memphis, made the second team last year.
Goffinet, a senior, broke Perry Central’s school record for hitting percentage (kills minus errors, divided by total attempts) with a .329 figure. She made 314 kills and 41 blocks and served 48 aces.
James, a junior setter, broke Perry Central’s school record for assists in a season with 905. She served 43 aces.
Parker led the Commodores in digs with 373, second best in school history.
Perry Central finished with a 27-5 record, a school record for wins.
Goffinet, James, Parker, Hannah Harpenau and Jordan Sprinkle were invited to try out for the state’s junior and senior all-star teams. The tryouts were held Sunday in Columbus.
