Garrett records triple double as Bulldogs beat Cloverport

CLOVERPORT, Ky. - Jaci Garrett amassed a statistical triple double without scoring a point as Cannelton beat Cloverport 48-12 in girls basketball Tuesday.

Garrett, a sophomore forward, grabbed 15 rebounds, made 13 steals, and had 10 assists.

Her steal total tied the school record set by Theresa Alvey against Faith Heritage Jan. 29, 2002.

Nakaa Myers led Cannelton in scoring with 19 points and Brianna Simpson added 12. Myers hit 9 of 14 from the field.

No one scored more than four points for Cloverport, 0-10.

"I was pleased with our defense on (Cloverport center Mandy) Arnold," said Cannelton Coach Jeff Miller. "She scored 16 against us the last time (at Cannelton Jan. 10)."

Brooke Powers and Chelsea Johns each grabbed seven rebounds for Cannelton to back Garrett in that department.

Cannelton hit only 26.2 percent (11 of 42) from the field Saturday and lost a home game to South Central's JV team 44-28.

Simpson led Cannelton with 15 points on 6 of 12 field-goal shooting and 3 of 5 free throws.

Garrett grabbed six rebounds.

A bright spot for the Bulldogs was they committed only nine turnovers.

Cannelton, 3-13, will visit Portland Christian Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
