TELL CITY –  Friends of Ed Whitcomb, a committee formed to honor the former governor of Indiana, has announced its future plans.

Donations are being solicited in order to commemorate Ed and his wife, Evelyn’s, lives and time spent in Perry County. The money will be used to purchase a bust of Whitcomb identical to one that resides in the Statehouse in Indianapolis and was sculpted by Greg Harris of Cannelton.

The bust will reside at the Tell City Depot, home of the Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Funds will also be used to assist Jennings County in its efforts to construct a monument to Whitcomb at the Hayden Museum in Hayden, the former governor’s birthplace. A fundraising dinner will be held at the Schergens Center in Tell City Friday.

The event will include a dinner, band and a program telling about Whitcomb’s life. Various speakers, including Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann, will assist in the program. A reception will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30. Individual tickets may be purchased for $50 each and there are funding levels for groups who want to purchase several tickets or to reserve a table. Tables and tickets may be reserved through the Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau or by calling 547-7933.

Donations may also be made by going to www.friendsofedwhitcomb. com, where PayPal and a mailing address are available.

Donations are tax-deductible and checks should be made out to Friends of Ed Whitcomb.
