The Tell City District hosted the 18th annual Kids Fishing Derby at German Ridge Pond May 18. This year’s event drew in 51 kids from the area and featured a big fish contest, most fish caught contest, and a casting contest in each of the four age groups. The kids caught a total of 150 bluegill, redear, largemouth bass and rainbow trout.

The Perry County Bass Masters were on hand to help all of the young anglers. When the fishing heats started, they also helped to net, weigh and release the fish for the kids.

The Perry County Bass Masters, Tell City Kiwanis and Pepsi of Owensboro supplied lunch for everyone that attended the event.

Many businesses from the community donated to help make this a very special day for all of the kids, said Amanda Kunzmann with the forest service.

“All in all, it was a great day for everyone.  The parents had fun assisting the kids.  The kids had fun catching fish, participating in the contests, and rotating through the other booths,” she said.

She extended thanks to the following businesses: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Bass Pro Shops, Bosse Field-Evansville Otters Baseball, BR Associates, Carman’s Body Shop, Century 21-Arnold & Associates, Dairy Queen, Fischer’s Furniture & Appliance, French Lick-West Baden Indoor Karting, German America Bank, Harpenau Insurance Co., Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville, Lincoln Amphitheatre, Louisville Bats Baseball Club, Louisville Science Center, Marengo Cave, Maurices, Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden, Radio Shack, Squire Boone Caverns, Swonder Ice Arena, Thomas Glass & More, Valley of the Springs Resort, Valley Supply, Waupaca Foundry and Werner Drug Store.
