NEWBURGH—Tell City senior Dylan Froehlich remained undefeated as he won the 215-pound title in the Castle wrestling regional Saturday.
Teammate A.J. Flynn placed fourth in the 130-pound weight class to also qualify for the semistate.
Froehlich beat Jordan Adams of Evansville Memorial 2-0 in the championship match to raise his season record to 42-0.
He scored the only points in that match on a reversal in the second period.
He pinned Jesse Hohl of Evansville Central in 0:49 and decisioned Justin Van Winkle of Mater Dei 6-0 to advance to the finals.
Froehlich is Tell City’s 14th regional champion and the first since Brandon Harrison in 2006.
Froehlich’s brother, Zach, won the 189-pound regional in 2004 and is now a Tell City assistant coach. He and Dylan are the only pair of brothers to win regionals for Tell City.
Flynn beat Zach Wolfe of Harrison 2-1 in his first-round match.
Flynn got pinned by Jacob Melliff of North Posey in 4:31 and Jordan Mann of Castle in 4:41 in the next two rounds.
His shoulder popped out of the socket in his second-round match, said Tell City Coach Joe Litherland.
“I told him he didn’t have to wrestle the next match because he had already qualified for the semistate,” said Litherland. “But he wanted to go ahead and wrestle.”
The semistate will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at Roberts Stadium, with the finals scheduled at approximately 5 p.m.
Froehlich drew Brandon Rice, 29-17, of Madison for his first-round match.
Flynn, 12-4, drew Tim Martin, 35-5, of New Albany in the first round.
