CANNELTON – To kick off Cannelton’s celebration of its 175th anniversary and annual Heritage Fest, the city will host a parade at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Line up will begin at 1 p.m. on Old Highway 237. Categories for the parade include commercial, band, civic and community. Certificates will be given to all participants and awards will be presented for first, second and third place in each category. For safety reasons, the community asks that candy be handed out to children, not thrown from floats.
To date, there are at least 40 entries in the parade, including the United States Army Band of Fort Knox and the Tell City High School Marching Marksmen. Former Gov. Ed Whitcomb is the parade’s grand marshall.
For the first time, animals eligible for adoption from the Perry County Animal Shelter will be walked in the parade by the new youth organization of the Perry County Human Society. The Hoof Foundation will also parade horses up for adoption.
For more information, contact Manette VanWinkle at 547-6476, Lena Joyal at 547-0061 or Molly Hall at 547-3746 or send e-mail to lmjoyal@gmail.com. Entries will be taken until Wednesday. The parade is sponsored by Mick’s Pizza, R&A Sports, Thompson Tires and Gerber Rentals.
