Fitness Games set Schweizer Fest week

TELL CITY—The Perry County Fitness Games, a competition to find out who the fittest people in Perry County are, will be held Aug. 9-11.

The first of six events will be weightlifting (squat, bench press and dead lift) 6-9 p.m. Aug. 9 at New Directions and Tell City High School’s weight room.

The second event will be the hundreds, which includes double unders, sit-ups, air squats and pushups, 6-10 p.m. Aug. 9 in the street outside New Directions.

The third event will be the broad jump (two attempts from a standing position) 7:15 a.m. Aug. 10 at the intersection by St. Paul Church.

That will be followed by a two-mile road run starting from Seventh and Main streets.

Event five at 12:05 p.m. Aug. 10 at New Directions will have participants trying to complete as many repetitions of burpees and power cleans as they can in five minutes.

The final event 8 a.m. Aug. 11 at Tell City High School’s parking lot will include push presses, dead lifts and box jumps.

Cash prizes ($100 for first place) and free memberships to New Directions Fitness Facility will be awarded to the top three male and female contestants.

Anyone wanting to participate may sign up at New Directions 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 7.

Entry fee is $20 per person, $15 for students, and includes a T-shirt.

Proceeds from the contest will be donated to Tell City Junior-Senior High School’s athletic department.
