A Sunday-morning fire destroyed about 90 large bales of hay along Avery Ridge Road. Firefighters from Anderson Township, New Boston and Central Perry fire departments worked for several hours Sunday morning to extinguish the blaze at the Clem Harpenau farm and used large equipment to pull apart the bales. Anderson Township Fire Chief John Taylor said spontaneous combustion is suspected of triggering the blaze. The plume of smoke could be seen from miles away and the odor of burning hay could be detected a far away as Evanston and Troy. After working from 5:45 to 11:30 a.m.
