VINCENNES—Tell City graduate Alex Fenn is running cross country and track for Vincennes University.
Fenn agreed to accept an athletic scholarship from the Trail Blazers earlier this summer and reported to practice cross country practice this month.
He said Friday that he’s not sure where he ranks on the team “because I’m injured right now (a leg injury). It’ll be gone soon, though, I hope.”
He also said Coach Chris Gafner hasn’t told him what races he will run in track yet. “It’ll probably be the 1500 (meters), 5K and maybe the 10K—those are the distance races in college meets.”
Fenn, a 2009 Tell City graduate, excelled at distance racing in track and cross country for the Marksmen.
In cross country he was a two-time Pocket Athletic Conference champion before missing the PAC meet his senior season due to illness.
He also helped Tell City win the PAC team title twice.
He bounced back from his illness last fall to place fifth in the Jasper cross country semistate and 10th in the Crawford County regional. He was then named to the Class A and 2A all-state second team.
In track he placed second in the PAC 3200-meter run and sixth in the 1600 last spring despite being bothered by a sore leg.
He placed fourth in the 3200 in the Jasper sectional. His 9:54.96 clocking made him only the second Tell City runner in the last 20 years to run it in under 10 minutes.
The son of Mark and Rebecca Fenn, he is majoring in agriculture.
