Fire marshal rules blaze accidental

TELL CITY – A fatal fire Aug. 16 that tore through a Ninth Street mobile home began on a porch.

That was the ruling by an investigator with the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Tell City Fire Chief Greg Linne said.

“It was his belief that the fire was accidental in nature and the front porch was the area of origin,” Linne said last week.

No exact cause of the blaze at 32 Ninth St. was determined in the investigation.

Firefighters were called just after 12:30 p.m. and found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Perry County Coroner Charlie Baumeister said Charles Huff died of smoke inhalation. His body was found on the floor inside a bedroom.

He lived with the home’s owner, Shirley Cronin, and Cronin’s son.
