Families may be eligible for energy bill assistance

-A A +A

PERRY COUNTY – Perry, Spencer and Crawford county residents may apply for assistance with their heating bills through a program called the Energy Assistance Program, Larry K. Kleeman, executive director of Lincoln Hills Development Corp., said recently.

To apply for the program, simply call 547-3435, Ext. 229 or 231 or call toll free (800) 467-1435, Ext. 229 or 231. An application for the program will be sent to your home. Special appointments will be made if necessary.

If your family has already applied for the program this year, you are not eligible to apply again. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a federal block grant funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and administered in the state by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

LHDC is the local community action agency administering the program in the three-county area.

The program is designed to assist low-income families with the high cost of home energy through the partial payment of utility and fuel bills. The program does not have sufficient funds to pay all the energy costs of eligible households.

For more information, contact the numbers above or visit www.LHDC.org.

Households may be eligible for assistance if the household’s gross income for the past 12 months does not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
