SPENCER COUNTY – The Spencer County Fair Inc. has set the date for this year’s Miss Spencer County and Miss Teen pageants. The 2013 event will begin at 6 p.m. June 10 at South Spencer High School.
“This is the perfect time of year for contestants to start planning. While they are shopping for prom dresses, they can be looking for a dress that will work for both the prom and the pageant, pageant director Debbie Barrett said.
Due to mandatory age requirement changes at the Indiana State Fair, the pageant committee will be required to make changes to the Spencer County age requirements, as well, she said.
The state fair now requires that a contestant be 17 years old by June 1. The Miss Spencer County page-ant will follow suit.
“So that our winner will be eligible to compete at the Indiana State Fair, we need to adjust our age requirements so that she will qualify,” Barrett said.
This year’s age requirements will be as follows:
• Miss Teen Spencer County, 14-16 years old. Thirteen-year-olds have been moved back to Junior Teen.
• Miss Spencer County, 17 to 20 years old and must be 17 by June 1 and cannot have reached their 21st birthday by Aug. 16.
Registration packets are available at South Spencer and Heritage Hills high schools.
