Edelweiss Ball to rejoin Schweizer Fest schedule

TELL CITY – The Edelweiss Ball used to be one of Schweizer Fest week’s big events, a formal event that drew hundreds of people who danced to the sounds of the late 1950s and 60s. The balls eventually faded from the festival schedule, until now. The 56th Schweizer Fest will return with a 1950s-themed ball scheduled for Aug. 2 at the Schergens Center.

“A lot of the credit for the idea goes to Pete Franzman,” said Danny Bolin, who is helping to organize the event as a fundraiser for the Perry County Museum in Cannelton. Franzman suggested returning the ball to the Schweizer Fest.

The event won’t lack 1950s sounds with Bolin and three musically talented friends, Stan LaGrange, Kelly Clark and Kenny Hasty, forming the Mystical Melody Kings. “There will be a heck of a musical lineup,” said Bolin, who said the group will look the part of 1950s musicians with classic songs and a stand-up bass.

The event will kick off with a 6 p.m. cocktail hour and a catered prime rib dinner will follow at 7. Dancing will follow the meal until 11 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner and an souvenir glass.
