Don’t restrict marriage to a narrow definition

I would like to better understand the argument presented in your editorial titled “Don’t Belittle the Opponents of Gay Marriage” but unfortunately your logic has failed to convince me. 

Past civil-rights battles have been won when insisting upon the equal rights ultimately sped legislation and acceptance of these rights. Contrary to your argument, many would argue that by not having the legal right to same-sex marriage that their love and commitment to their partner is the victim being belittled.
