Members of the Derby Community Association gathered last month to present newly constructed playground improvements in Mulzer Park. They cut a ceremonial ribbon with the Perry County Parks and Recreation Board. Pictured in the front row, from the left, are Bill Goffinet, Brenda Peter, Sharon Kleeman, Larry Kleeman (mostly hidden), Derby Community Association Vice President Mike Simon, Mike Kleeman, James Payne, Derby Store owner Angela Payne, Billy Hibbs, Gloria Payne, Suzie James, Kevin James, Rita Goffinet and Mike Franchville. In the back are parks board members Rick Newton, Pat Clark and Danny Peter and County Parks Director Adam Tempel. Absent is association treasurer Mary Holland.
Community-association members paid for and provided labor for the playground project, which cost about $10,000. “We have many plans for the park and Derby as a whole to help develop more residency and make it the tourist destination for Perry County,” Association President Mike Kleeman said.
