ROCKPORT - A coal-gasification plant eyed for Spencer County would create more than 1,000 construction jobs, at least 200 high-paying permanent positions and help propel the state to the national forefront in clean-coal technology, Gov. Mitch Daniels said last week.
Daniels signed legislation Tuesday allowing the Indiana Finance Authority to negotiate 30-year contracts to purchase and sell the substitute natural gas the plant would make from coal. The synthetic gas would be sold to Hoosier utilities.
