Editor’s Note: This story has been edited to remove a statement in the original version that indicated the vehicle driven by Kelsey Gowers struck the vehicle driven by Shellayne Cronin. The original story was based on comments made by sheriff’s deputies. However,  Perry County Chief Deputy Daymion Marsh said Tuesday afternoon he was awaiting a report from state police crash reconstructionists before completing his report on how the collision occurred.

TELL CITY – A Cloverport, Ky., woman died Sunday in a two-car collision on Stone Road near Tell City.

According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, Shellayne R. Cronin, 52, was traveling eastbound on Stone Road toward Indiana 37 when her vehicle and one driven by Kelsey Gowers, 17, of Tell City collided.

Perry County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Daymion Marsh said Cronin was pronounced dead at the scene. Gowers was flown to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville but was expected to be treated and released.

Indiana State Police accident reconstructionists John Deer and Philip Hensley assisted at the scene, as did Perry County EMS and the Perry County Rescue Squad. Perry County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Myers is also helping with the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation but Marsh said he does not believe drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Family members of both drivers have been notified, deputies said.
