TELL CITY - County-council members authorized at a regular meeting Feb. 25 the transfer of $1,101 from one sheriff's-department fund to another to help pay for four 800-MHz radios.
Sheriff's Deputy Lee Chestnut explained an $11,000 Indiana Criminal Justice Institute grant would cover the majority of the cost, which he said is between $2,700 and $2,800 per radio. Grant recipients have to provide 10-percent matching funds. 800-MHz radios are being adopted statewide, he explained, so officers using them would be able to communicate with other agencies.
