LEOPOLD—Corydon amassed 13 hits, including seven for extra bases, to beat Perry Central 13-2 in baseball Tuesday.

Perry Central had only three hits—a double and single by DeeJay Shaw and a double by Seth Raetz.

The Commodores scored both their runs in the third inning on Shaw’s single to right field after Brad Barnes walked and Raetz doubled to left-center.

In the first inning Shaw’s double put runners on second and third with two outs. But a ground out ended the inning.

“That was the only times we mounted any semblance of offense,” said Perry Central Coach Gary Hanan.

“Whatever steps forward we took in our opener, we took 10 to 12 backward today,” he added. “Our defense was poor and our offense was poor.

“Besides DeeJay Shaw having two hits, the only positive I saw was Seth Raetz came in and threw well after he got into a little bit of a groove.

“He didn’t pitch at all last year but I was pleased with the way he was throwing by the end of the game—he was keeping the batters off-balance.”

Stephen Hayes started on the mound for Perry Central and gave up six hits in 11⁄3 innings.

Raetz relieved him and gave up seven hits and two walks in the final 32⁄3 innings.

Perry Central, 0-2, will visit North Posey for a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
