Mu Gamma to meet today at EUCC

TELL City – Mu Gamma will meet at 6 p.m. today in the upstairs of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City.
The membership committee will host the meeting.

Free kidney education class today
TELL CITY – There will be a free kidney education class at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Fifth Third Bank Community Room, 45 SR 66 Tell City.
This class is free and open to anyone with chronic kidney disease and family members are welcome to attend with them.

Free blood-pressure, -sugar tests offered by VNA Plus
TELL CITY – Keep a watch on your well-being by taking advantage of free monthly blood-pressure and blood-sugar screenings offered by VNA Plus Home Care and Hospice. The screenings will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. today at Twilight Towers in Tell City.
The clinic is conducted by registered nurses and no preregistration is necessary.

Cannelton Legion Auxiliary meetings

CANNELTON – Cannelton American Legion Auxiliary meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Legion post home.
All members are encouraged to attend and anyone interested in joining is welcome.
 
VFW breakfast set for Saturday
TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will host a breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the post home.
Price is $6.50 plus tax and the public is invited to attend.

Horsemen club euchre games start in October
PERRY COUNTY – The Southern Indiana Horseman’s Club will host its annual fall euchre games Oct. 5, Oct. 19, Nov. 2, Nov. 16 and Nov. 30.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and games will begin at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 at the door and 25 cents per euchre game.
Chili, hot dogs, desserts, coffee, sodas and water will be available. No smoking will be permitted in the building.

Muzzle-loader match at Rome lodge
ROME – Rome Lodge 133 Free and Accepted Masons will host a muzzle-loader shooting match Oct. 5. Registration will start at 10 a.m. and the match will begin at noon.
The event will be held on Millstone Road, just east of Rocky Point. Those attending are asked to follow the signs.
All muzzle-load rifles are eligible including in line and scoped. All shooting will be off hand at a distance of 25 to 75 yards. Trophies will be awarded to the top marksmen. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Entry fee will be $10 per person. Lunch will be available. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed.

Tickets available for Moose 100-year celebration
TELL CITY –Tickets are being sold for Tell City Moose Lodge 1424’s 100-year celebration Oct. 12. Doors will open at 4 p.m. and all members are encouraged to attend.
Tickets are $15 each and include dinner, program and a dance.

Celina, Indian campgrounds plan Halloween campout
PERRY COUNTY – A Halloween campout is planned for Oct. 4-6 at Indian and Celina lakes campgrounds.
There will be prizes for the best-decorated campgrounds as well as trick-or-treating. For more information, call Marilyn Kidwell at 843-3476.

Haunted walking tour, novice hunt Oct. 12

CANNELTON – Tell City Ghost Hunters will present their second annual Historic Haunted Walking Tour and Novice Hunt Oct. 12 during the annual Heritage Fest in Cannelton.
The group will offer two walking tours from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 8 to 10 p.m. tickets are $10 per person or $15 per couple.
The novice hunt will be held at the Perry County Museum from 10:15 p.m. to 2 a.m. There is a limit of 10 tickets for the event and cost is $20 each.

Kickball tournament benefit Oct. 12
CANNELTON – The Perry County Museum will host a kickball tournament fundraiser Oct. 12 at Legion Field in Cannelton.
Teams will need to consist of at least nine players and registration cost is $50 per team. Times of matches have yet to be determined and will depend on the number of teams competing. Watch the News for more details.
Awards will be given to the top two teams and to the team with the best name, best team shirt design and most home runs.

VFW arts, crafts bazaar Oct. 19
TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars 2939 Ladies Auxiliary will host an arts and crafts vendors bazaar Oct. 19 at 301 Main St., Tell City.
Tables may be reserved for $15 by calling Kim at 719-8255.
The public is invited to attend and see homemade, antique and new vendor items.

D of I to gather items for adoption center

TELL CITY – The Daughters of Isabella are again collecting baby items or slightly used clothing for St. Elizabeth-Coleman Adoption Center in Indianapolis.
This year, members are asking for baby clothing or items to be used for infants. They ask that gifts not be wrapped but have a price on each one. Boxes and baskets will be located at the three parishes – St. Paul, St. Michael and St. Pius – until Oct. 20. The items will then be taken to the center in Indianapolis.

Books needed at Twilight Towers

TELL CITY – The Twilight Towers Library is looking for some more large-print books, paperback or hardback, to add to its collection.
Gently used books would be much appreciated by the tenants.
Books can be dropped off at the Twilight Towers office, 1648 10th St., Tell City.
 
Oakwood’s day at the movies

TELL CITY – Oakwood and Care One Home Health hosts senior-citizens day at the movies the third Wednesday of each month at Tell City Cinemas.
A free movie is shown with a choice of current films available, popcorn and a soft drink.
Doors open at noon and the movie begins at 1.

EVANSVILLE – If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, programs are available through the Alzheimer’s Association to help. These program provide information on detection, causes and risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment and more.

HIV testing offered at health department

PERRY COUNTY – Did you know that someone becomes infected with HIV every 9.5 minutes?
Get tested and know your status, urges the AIDS Resource Group of Evansville, which offers free and confidential HIV testing at the Perry County Health Department the second Tuesday of every month. Hours are 1 to 3 p.m.

Living Bread Food Pantry open to public

TELL CITY – The Living Bread Food Pantry, an outreach program of Tell Street Baptist Church, offers prayer, Christian guidance and food to the needy families in the surrounding area.
Anyone is invited to schedule an appointment Saturdays, except the first of the month.
Appointments can be made by calling 547-4500 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Only two appointments per person per month are allowed.
