Down Memory Lane program

TELL CITY – The June program for Tell City Historical Society will be titled “Down Memory Lane” and take place today
In 1936, without the luxury of digital devices or today’s modern conveniences, the Anderson family recorded the details of their 2,000-mile trip, down to the cost of gum and the length of each journey.  The event will begin at 6 p.m.

Veterans benefits talk Tuesday
TELL CITY – Oakwood Health Campus will host a veterans benefits workshop Tuesday.
Two sessions with Veterans Financial will be held at 2 and 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.  RSVPs need to be made by calling 547-2333.

Family fun night at Early Head Start
TELL CITY – Lincoln Hills Development Corp. Early Head Start invites the public to attend a family-fun night from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Early Head Start Center, 321 Ninth Street, Tell City.
Rachel Metzger of Butler Dentistry will be the guest speaker and the topic is dental care. A carnival with games and prizes will follow.
The event will be open to parents and children ages birth through three years old. A meal will be provided to all who attend.

Health-care reform seminar Thursday
TELL CITY – The Perry County Chamber of Commerce will host a free seminar on health-care reform from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday at the chamber office.
Some questions that will be answered include “What is health-care reform?” “What does the upcoming deadline mean for my business?” and “Will I be ready for the 2014 mandates?”

Tractor Association to meet

BRANCHVILLE – The Ohio Valley Tractor Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Branchville Conservation Club.

Summer music series in Cannelton

CANNELTON – The Cannelton Foundation will host an outdoor music event called “Cannelcade of Music” from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday in the city’s Gazebo Park on Washington Street.
Admission is free and concessions will be available. Cannelcade of Music is summer music series with local performers singing hit songs.
Guests are encouraged to take lawn chairs. In case of rain, Cannelcade of Music will be held in the Community Center on Fourth Street.

Pool closed for swim meet
TELL CITY – The JFK Pool in Tell City will be closed Friday through Sunday for a conference swim meet.

Donations sought for weekend sale
TELL CITY – The Humane Society of Perry County will host a yard sale from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Democrat headquarters, 1120 Rubens St. in Tell City.
Donations are being accepted at Orscheln Farm and Home in Tell City through Wednesday. Items may also be dropped off from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Democrat headquarters. For more information, call Yvonne Carter at 836-4842.

TC cheerleaders to hold car wash

TELL CITY – The Tell City cheerleaders will have a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Tropical Snow. Students, coaches and parents will wash cars and take donations for the squad. The community is encouraged to attend.

VFW breakfast Saturday
TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will host a breakfast buffet beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the post home.
Cost is $6.50 plus tax. The public is invited.

Steel Guitars concert Sunday
DERBY – Steel Guitars will be in concert from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cedar Valley Park in Derby. Smoky McCoy will be one of the guest vocalists.
Concessions will be available and admission to the concert is free. Those attending are advised to take lawn chairs. For more information, call Dennis Howell at 836-2311.

Golf scramble for New Boston VFD Sunday
NEW BOSTON – The New Boston Volunteer Fire Department will hold a golf scramble Sunday at the Christmas Lake Village.
Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per person.

Euchre tourney at Sportsman

FULDA – The Fulda Sportsman Club will host a euchre tourney July 13 at the club in Fulda. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with play beginning at 7 p.m.
There will be six 20-minute games with prizes awarded at the end of the night. Refreshments will be available and the public is welcome to attend.

Novice ghost hunt planned
CANNELTON – The Tell City Ghost Hunters will host a novice hunt at the Perry County Museum in Cannelton from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. July 20.
Novice hunts are designed for individuals who are interested in paranormal activity but are not a part of an organized team. The group will have equipment for participants to use. Cost is $25 per person and only six tickets will be available. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Oakwood’s day at the movies

TELL CITY – Oakwood and Care One Home Health will host a senior-citizens day at the movies the third Wednesday of each month at Tell City Cinemas.
A free movie will be shown with a choice of current films available, popcorn and a soft drink. Doors will open at noon and the movie will begin at 1.

Santa Claus Legion poker games

SANTA CLAUS – Santa Claus American Legion Post 242 conducts Texas Hold ’em poker tourneys the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.
Sign in is from 5 to 6 p.m. Play begins at 6:15 p.m.

HIV testing offered at health department

PERRY COUNTY – Did you know someone becomes infected with HIV every 9.5 minutes?
Get tested and know your status, urges the AIDS Resource Group of Evansville, which offers free and confidential HIV testing at the Perry County Health Department the second Tuesday of every month. Hours are 1 to 3 p.m.

Zumba at Schergens Center
TELL CITY – Everbody’s in Tell City and Perry County Wellness are sponsoring Zumba classes at the Schergens Center at 6:30 p.m. every Monday.
Cost is $3 per class or $12 for five sessions. Perry County students are admitted to classes for free.
Those attending are asked to wear athletic shoes, take water and a towel and to arrive a few minutes early to sign in. Elementary children attending must be accompanied by an adult.
