Perry County history book on sale for Christmas
PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County Chamber of Commerce announces a sale on the “Perry County: Then and Now” book by Michael Rutherford. 
The book will be on sale through the end of the year for $50, tax included.
The Perry County History Book is a standard library-size hardbound, 288-page book with a full-color cover.  The book was re-printed last year by request, so pick-up your copy today by calling the chamber office or by visiting area retailers.

Optimist blanket drive wraps up Saturday
TELL CITY – The Tell City Optimist Club will conduct its annual blanket drive from now until Dec. 17.
Items accepted will be any size blanket or throw. Drop off locations are set up at Old National Bank, Fifth Third Bank, German American banks and the Evangelical United Church of Christ and St. Paul Catholic Church. For more information, contact Nancy Ress at 836-2070.

Substance-abuse committee moves meeting
TELL CITY – The December meetings of the Perry County Substance Abuse Committee have been moved from Dec. 28 to Dec. 21.
The board of directors will meet at noon and the full committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 702 10th St. in Tell City.

Patoka’s Red-tailed Hawk at Jasper Public Library
JASPER – Discover the world of raptors at the Jasper Public Library at 6 p.m. EST Dec. 20.
Those attending will have the opportunity to en-joy a close up look at a live red-tailed hawk.
Participants will also see the tools this bird would use to hunt and survive in the wild.
The Department of Natural Resources Patoka Lake Interpretive Naturalist will present a story of a bird in captivity and the public is invited and encouraged to attend this informative. This program is free of charge.

VFW members to celebrate history Jan. 21
TELL CITY – Members of Tell City Veterans of Foreign Wars Winchell-Vogel Post 2939 will celebrate its 78-year anniversary with a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the post home.
The dinner is for members only, including the Ladies and Men’s Auxiliaries.
To attend, members are asked to take a covered dish. The post will furnish the meat.
A dance, which will be open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. and entertainment will be provided by Leo Gronquist and The Paradise Band.
Cover charge will be $5 per person at the door.

German American selling candles for Relay
TELL CITY – The three locations of German American in Tell City are selling a selection of candles for Relay for Life.
The candles cost $7 each. Proceeds will benefit the 2012 German American Re-lay for Life team.

Legion to host party Dec. 31
TELL CITY – Tell City American Legion Post 213 will host a New Year’s Eve party Dec. 31 at the post home.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. Cost is $10 per person.

Sportsman New Year’s Eve dine, dance
FULDA – The Fulda Sportsman Club will host a New Year’s Eve dine and dance Dec. 31 at the club.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a home-cooked dinner served at 6:30.
The dance will be from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with music provided by Final Tour.
Cost is $15 per person and will include party favors and set-ups.

New Year’s Eve party at Twilight Towers
TELL CITY – There will be a New Year’s Eve party in the dining room of Twilight Towers, 1648 10th St. in Tell City, from 9 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31.
This party is open to residents and the public. The music will be provided by the band Crosswinds. Snacks, coffee and lemonade will be available.
No smoking or alcohol will be permitted.
There will be no cover charge but donations will be appreciated.

PCMH to offer screenings Tuesdays
TELL CITY – Perry County Memorial Hospital will hold blood-pressure and blood-screenings every Tuesday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Wal-Mart in Tell City.
The screenings will be offered free of charge to the public.

VNA Plus blood-pressure, blood-sugar screenings
TELL CITY – The Visiting Nurse Association Plus will hold blood-pressure and blood-sugar screenings each month at Twilight Towers.

Hoosier Day in Sebring
SEBRING, Fla. – The annual Hoosier Day in Sebring has been scheduled for Feb. 4, 2012, at Homer’s Buffet at the corner of Highway 27 and Sebring Parkway across from Wal-Mart. Sign in is at 11 a.m. and the meal will be at noon.
