Karaoke at William Tell Center Friday
TELL CITY – The William Tell Center will host a karaoke night from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 18 at the center. Donnie Tindle of Crosswinds will provide the karaoke. Admission will be $5 and refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call 547-2714.

VFW to sell chicken dinners Saturday

TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will sell chicken dinners beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the post home.
Dinners will include barbecued chicken, baked beans and creek-bank potatoes.

The price per dinner will be $8 and meals may be dine-in or carryout. Everyone is welcome.

Optimists golf scramble set for Saturday
TELL CITY – The Tell City Optimist Club will host its annual golf scramble Saturday, July 19, at the Tell City Hoosier Heights Country Club. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Tee time will follow immediately after registration. Team entry fee is $140 per team or $35 per person.

Food and refreshments will be included in the entry fee. Awards will include first and second place, closest to pin, longest putt and longest drive.

St. John’s annual picnic to be held Saturday
LAMAR – St. John’s United Church of Christ will hold its annual summer picnic beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

Chicken and ham dinners will be served, along with St. John’s “Famous Dressing.” Sides will include au gratin potatoes, fresh vegetables, a salad buffet and a dessert bar.

Children 4 and younger will eat for free and everyone is welcome.

Bible school atFirst Baptist set for Saturday
CANNELTON – First Baptist Church in Cannelton will hold vacation Bible school from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19. This event is open to children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Parents may drop children off beginning at 9:30 a.m. and all children must be picked up by 3:30 p.m.

Parents will be required to sign permission slips available at drop-off or by sending email to youthrefuge2012@gmail.com.

Whitcomb and Price book-signing Saturday
DERBY – Hawesville author Eddie Price will present a program about his historical-fiction novel, “Widder’s Landing,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at the Smackwater Cove Bar and Grille.

Former Indiana Gov. Ed Whitcomb will join Price for a book signing and question-and-answer session about his books “Escape from Corregidor,” “On Celestial Wings” and “Cilin II.”

Little Pigeon Baptist homecoming Sunday
LAMAR – Little Pigeon Baptist Church near Lamar will celebrate homecoming with a carry-in dinner beginning at noon following morning services Sunday, July 20.

Singing with Dion and the Farmer family will begin at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join the congregation.

Quilt show Sunday at St. Meinrad’s

ST. MEINRAD – St. Meinrad Catholic Church will hold a quilt show from 10 a.m. to noon Central time Sunday, July 20, at the church.
Everyone is invited to stop by to see the quilts and vote for the quilts to be given away at the fall festival planned for Sept. 21.

Historical society picnic July 28

TELL CITY – The annual summer picnic for the Tell City Historical Society is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the Moose Lodge in Tell City. The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. Chicken and drinks will be furnished and members are asked to take a covered dish.

Lap swimming at JFK Pool
TELL CITY – Perry County Wellness and New Directions Health and Fitness Club are sponsoring open lap-swimming at the JFK Pool in Tell City throughout the summer. Sessions are now open from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Fridays and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. There will be no open swim Friday, July 18, due to a regional swim meet.

The cost per session is $3. There will be no charge for New Directions members but a membership card must be presented. Punch cards are available for purchase at the fitness club at 632 Main St. in Tell City. For more information, call 547-1200.

Sportsmen’s Club to host euchre tourney July 26
FULDA – The Fulda Sportsmen’s Club will host a euchre tourney at the club in Fulda Saturday, July 26.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with play beginning at 7 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of play and refreshments will be available. The public is invited to attend.

Farmers market now open
TELL CITY – The Perry County farmers market has kicked off its season. Hours are 8 a.m. until sellout Saturdays and 4 p.m. until sellout Wednesdays at The Depot. Markets will run through fall. Anyone wanting to learn more can call 547-7933.

Bible school planned at First Church of the Nazarene
TELL CITY – Tell City First Church of the Nazarene will host a weekend vacation Bible school, “Blast Off-Launching Kids on a Mission of God’s Love,” from Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 29 at the church.

Kids will participate in Bible-learning experiences, team-building games, Bible songs and multi-sensory Bible adventures and will participate in an outreach project called Projects-With-a-Purpose.

Zion United Church of Christ summer social July 26
CHRISNEY – The Zion United Church of Christ will hold a summer social beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the church on College Street in Chrisney.

Dinners will include chicken or ham with all of the trimmings. Homemade ice cream, cakes and pies will also be available.

St. Augustine picnic July 27

 LEOPOLD – St. Augustine’s Catholic Church will hold its annual picnic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the church. Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m.

There will be parking available for disabled guests.

There will be quilts, a quilt raffle, a silent auction, a country store, bingo, ice cream, games for all ages, baked goods and a grand raffle of 75 prizes totaling $3,000.

Family-style chicken dinners will be served by a ticket number system in an air-conditioned dining room. Cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children. Carryouts will be available.

Live entertainment will be provided by Kings Highway bluegrass band of Owensboro, Ky., and national thumb-picking guitarist Tony Rothrock of Winslow.

To reach the church, take Exit 79 from I-64, south on Indiana 37, watch for signs. From Tell City, take Indiana 37 north approximately 13 miles and watch for signs.
