Chamber open house Thursday
TELL CITY – The Perry County Chamber and Perry County Development Corp. will host a holiday open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at 601 Main Steet.

Service of the Longest Night set for Saturday
ST. MEINRAD – Abbey Caskets, a work of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, will host a Service of the Longest Night Saturday at 6 p.m. Central time in the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Guest House Chapel.

Many people find the holidays a challenging time. Instead of celebrating, they are struggling with grief. They miss loved ones and find that the usual traditions and bright lights serve only to heighten their struggles.

The Rev. Adrian Burke OSB will lead the service with prayer and Scripture that acknowledge those who mourn and struggle with loss during the Christmas season.

St. Paul chili supper Friday
TELL CITY – St. Paul Catholic Church has rescheduled its all-you-can-eat chili supper. It will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Survivors of Suicide meeting Dec. 23

La Leche League meeting Tuesday
FERDINAND – La Leche League will hold its monthly meeting from 10 to 11:30 a.m. EST Tuesday at 1035 Virginia St. in Ferdinand.

All women and children are welcome. La Leche League provides mother-to-mother support, encouragement and networking for breastfeeding, post-breastfeeding and pregnant women. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month.

United Pentecostal accepting candy orders
BRISTOW – The United Pentecostal Church is now taking orders for fudge for Christmas. All orders must be received by Thursday.  All candy will be delivered Dec. 23.  

Fudge, fudge with walnuts, peanut butter fudge and peanut butter balls (buckeyes) are  $3.50 per half pound.

Peanut brittle is $2.50 per patty. Call 843-4747 to order.

Children’s caroling program today
TELL CITY – Perry County Public Library announces registration is now open for its children’s Christmas caroling program. Christmas caroling will begin at 6 p.m. today at the Tell City location. The program includes caroling, making “magic reindeer food” and refreshments of cookies and milk.

Space is limited and certain to fill up, organizers said. To register for the Christmas caroling program, call the Tell City location at 547-2661.
This program is best suited for children birth through third grade. All programs are offered free of charge and everyone is welcome.

Optimist Club blanket drive underway
TELL CITY – The Optimist Club of Tell City is conducting its annual blanket drive to benefit Catholic Charities through Saturday. Collection boxes are located at all area banks, Evangelical United Church of Christ and St. Paul Church.

Teen group to meet Sunday
PERRY COUNTY – All teenagers, parents and others interested in the lives of local young people are invited to attend “Hope’s Hall” at 1 p.m. every Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Tell City.

The hour-long program includes a guest speaker and discussion time and offers teenagers a safe place to face their struggles in a nondenominational setting.

Girl Scout cookie sales begin Dec. 23
PERRY COUNTY – Local troops from the Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana council will kick off cookie sales Dec. 23.

Cookies are $3.50 a box. To order by phone, call (812) 421-4970 or order online at www.girlscouts-gssi.org.

Cookie sales will continue through Jan. 17. Girls will deliver cookies Feb. 10 through March 9.

Financial aid workshop Jan. 15
TELL CITY – Tell City Junior-Senior High School will host a financial aid workshop at 6 p.m. Jan. 15 in the school library for all seniors and their parents.

A financial aid representative will be on hand to explain step-by-step procedures for completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and answer any questions students or parents may have.

Filing the FAFSA is necessary to be considered for financial assistance.

Information will also be available regarding free sessions to assist families in filing the form.

A valid email address must be included on the FAFSA to receive important email updates.

The Federal Processing Office must receive the form by March 10, 2014.

Free health screenings offered Dec. 26
TELL CITY – VNA Plus Home Care & Hospice will offer a free blood pressure and blood sugar screening from 9 to 10 a.m. Dec 26 at Twilight Towers in Tell City.

This free clinic will be conducted by registered nurses and pre-registration is not necessary.
