LEOPOLD—Perry Central scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Springs Valley 3-2 in PLAC baseball Wednesday.

After scoring solo runs in each of the first two innings, the Commodores had been held scoreless six innings in a row entering the ninth.

Seth Raetz led off that inning with a single and continued to second base as the ball got past the left fielder.

Ian Hahus then laid down a sacrifice bunt to get Raetz to third. But the catcher threw the ball into right field, allowing Raetz to score the winning run.

Raetz and Lucas Bryant each had two of Perry Central’s seven hits in the game.

Joey Peter and Clint Cassidy combined to pitch a six-hitter for Perry Central. Peter struck out two and walked four in six innings, and Cassidy struck out two and walked two in three innings.

The win meant the Commodores still had a chance to tie for the conference title. But that chance ended when they lost 11-0 to Mitchell Thursday.

“Mitchell showed up and we didn’t,” said Perry Central Coach Gary Hanan.

Mitchell had 13 hits, including six doubles. Four batters each had one hit—all singles—for Perry Central.

Ian Hahus, the first of three Perry Central pitchers, took the loss. He gave up 10 hits and no walks and struck out two in three innings.

The Commodores had nine fewer hits than their opponents again Friday as they lost a non-conference game to Forest Park 8-1.

The Rangers hit two homers, a triple and a double.

Raetz hit a double to lead Perry Central’s three-hit attack. Stephen Hayes singled home the Commodores’ only run, his team-leading 31st RBI.

Dee Jay Shaw pitched the first four innings for the Commodores to take the loss. He gave up nine hits and two walks and struck out one.

Perry Central, 7-17, will conclude its regular season at Heritage Hills today at 4:30 p.m.
