LEOPOLD - Taking advantage of eight walks and nine Cannelton errors, Perry Central scored 15 runs on just four hits to win 15-4 in the first game of a girls softball doubleheader Saturday.

Cannelton cut its errors to two in the second game but Perry Central had nine hits and also won that game 11-1.

The Commodores took control of the first game with nine runs in the second inning on two hits, five walks, three errors, a hit batsman and a wild pitch.

Morgan Gibson hit a two-run single that inning. She went 1 for 2 plus two walks to lead Perry Central's offense for the game.

Jaci Garrett hit two triples to lead Cannelton's seven-hit attack. Shy May added a double and a single.

Abby Preher pitched a complete game for Perry Central to get the win, walking none and striking out four.

Stephanie Posey walked eight and struck out five for Cannelton.

Emily Tempel went 3 for 3 plus a walk and drove in four runs for Perry Central in the second game.

Tempel hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning to give the Commodores the lead for good.

Ashley Brown added a bases-loaded triple in the third inning. She also drove in four runs for the game.

Nikki Hall added a double and Gibson had two singles.

Cassie Wilgus pitched the first 3 1?3 innings for Perry Central to get the win, giving up no hits and four walks and striking out two.

After she left the game with an injury in the fourth inning, Preher came in and gave up two hits but pitched out of a bases-loaded jam.

She walked none and struck out one in 1 2?3 innings to earn a save.

Posey pitched another complete game for Cannelton, walking seven and striking out four.

Nakaa Myers and Garrett hit singles in the fourth for all of Cannelton's hits.

"Errors hurt us again," said Cannelton Coach Brian Garrett. "We should've been out of the first inning (of the first game) with no damage (instead of giving up three runs)."

Perry Central committed three errors in the first game and four in the second. "We're getting in the right spots but we're not always making the plays yet," said Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson.

On the positive side he noted, "Emily Tempel hit the ball well in both games and Abby looked pretty good (in just her second game back from a wrist injury)."

Perry Central improved to 2-10 while Cannelton fell to 0-6.
