Commodores have trouble blocking Jasper’s spikes

LEOPOLD—Perry Central made only seven blocks in four games and lost to Jasper 20-25, 25-9, 25-12, 25-20 in volleyball Thursday.
Hannah Harpenau made 13 kills to lead Perry Central. Ashley Gengelbach added eight, Sydney Goffinet seven, and Jordan Sprinkle four.
Grace James had 22 assists.
James, Gengelbach and Goffinet each made two blocks.
The Commodores did a good job digging Jasper’s hits much of the time.
Brittany Parker made 20 digs, Jennifer Kemp and James each 16, Harpenau 13, and Gengelbach eight.
The Commodores served well but had trouble getting ace serves against Jasper’s defense.
James led the team with two aces. Parker went 15 for 15 serving with one ace.
Jasper won the JV match 25-21, 25-11.
Skyly Cummings, Mackenzie Etienne and Sarah Spires each made three kills for Perry Central.
Spires also had four assists. Maddie Hubert made four blocks and Hannah Edwards made 12 digs.
The schools split two C-team games, with Jasper winning the first 25-19 but Perry Central taking the second 25-15.
Cummings made six kills and Spires had four kills, six assists, two blocks and three ace serves for Perry Central in that match.
Autumn Lain and Alyssa Gray each made seven digs.
Perry Central, 19-6 in varsity, 9-7 in JV, and 7-2 in C-team matches, will visit Forest Park Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
