MARENGO—Perry Central amassed 548 yards of total offense in a 49-0 PLAC football win over Crawford County Friday.
Austin LeClere rushed for 191 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns—one on a 59-yard run.
Luke Hilgenhold, playing only the fourth quarter, added 79 yards on six carries. Nathan Shaw rushed for 68 yards on nine carries and Devin Martin 45 yards on three carries.
But it was an accurate passing game early that helped open room for the runners to operate.
Perry Central quarterback Lane Lynch threw one interception but completed his other six passes to his own receivers for 140 yards.
He threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Devin Martin to start the scoring on the Commodores’ opening drive.
He added a 70-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Hubert with 9:11 left in the second quarter.
“We threw the ball well early,” said Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson. “We’ve got a lot of weapons.”
The Commodores also scored two touchdowns on interception returns by Kane James and Dacota Schaad.
James, a lineman, batted a pass, grabbed it out of the air, and ran 28 yards to score.
Devin Martin and Tim Harrison also intercepted passes. The Commodores put good pressure on Wolfpack quarterback Seth Fell throughout, holding his team to 9 for 30 passing for 90 yards.
“Our pass defense was solid and last year that was a weakness,” said Gibson. “We’ve got good speed in our secondary.”
Lynch capped the scoring with a 2-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Despite winning, Gibson wasn’t thrilled with his team’s three turnovers and six penalties.
“Overall it wasn’t one of our better games, but we played well when we had to,” he said.
Perry Central improved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the PLAC. Crawford County fell to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
The Commodores will host Paoli Friday at 6:30 p.m.
