Commodore girls dominate boards against Rock Creek

SELLERSBURG - Perry Central dominated the rebounding at both ends to beat Rock Creek Christian 67-30 in girls basketball Thursday.

The Commodores grabbed 52 rebounds, including 25 at their offensive end.

Center Alie Schroeder played just over two quarters and grabbed 15 rebounds, eight on offense.

Rachael Rayford added seven rebounds and Hilarie Hahus grabbed six.

The Commodores turned some of their defensive rebounds into fast breaks with quick outlet passes.

They also got some fast breaks off steals.

"We did a good job pushing the ball up the floor," said Perry Central Coach Sarah Spindler. "That's where we got a lot of our points."

Schroeder scored seven points in the first quarter and guard Melissa Hahus added six as the Commodores jumped to a 21-4 lead.

Schroeder finished with 16 points. Melissa Hahus added 12 and Rayford scored 11.

The Commodores hit 27 of 62 shots from the field for 43.5 percent.

Forward Rebekah Gary led Rock Creek with 21 points.

Perry Central improved to 6-13 while Rock Creek fell to 3-14.

Perry Central will host Southridge Thursday at 7 p.m.

Perry Central won the junior varsity game 57-13 as Katie Schwartz scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Deidra Dickerson added 11 points, five rebounds and five steals, Megan Hedinger eight points and 10 rebounds, Tessa Lynch eight points and five rebounds, and Lavina Schwartz seven points and five assists.

Perry Central improved to 10-5.
