“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke)
Much of what is wrong with our nation today can be explained by Edmund Burke’s observation. There are many good men (and women) in America but are they willing to stand up and fight for their beliefs? Sadly, too often, the answer is no.
The Lord commands his people to do good (Luke 6:35). Jesus rebuked the church at Laodicea for doing nothing. Yet we have millions of Christians in this country sitting back and letting the heathen take control of politics, the arts, the radio and television stations, the Internet, business, it goes on and on. We can’t only blame the godless for what is wrong with our country, because they are only doing what they know to do. It is the Christians who know better, yet let the evil happen, who are to blame in large part. If you do nothing to combat wickedness you help it to prevail.
We are locked in a struggle of good versus evil. It has always been that way and will remain so until Jesus returns. The fight is 24/7 as they say, and evil is winning.
This country was founded by God-fearing Christian men, to be a God-fearing Christian nation. Forget what the revisionist historians try to make you believe. Here are a few quotes from previous presidents:
John Adams, our second president, said, “The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were . . . the general principles of Christianity. “
Ronald Reagan said, “Inside the Bible’s pages lie all the answers to all of the problems man has ever known …”
Harry Truman had the gift of brevity: “This is a Christian Nation.”
The Supreme Court itself observed in 1892 that, “this is a Christian nation.”
For more than 200 years, we have thought of ourselves as a Christian nation. Seventy-six percent of the people surveyed in the U.S. recently, said they considered themselves Christian, regardless of what the current president and some second-rate magazines have to say.
The question becomes, how can we remain a Christian nation amidst the sin-ravaged world in which we now live?
We need to speak out in our voting. Research every candidate and vote only for ones who are morally in step with the Bible.
We need to become the makers of the law and public policy. Christians need to be societal leaders. We need to be the judges, principals and congressmen. We need to sit on the city and county councils.
We must not compromise our principles in order to be politically correct. We must be biblically correct. We must speak out and give a voice to God’s opinion on all matters, large and small.
I’m quite sure that there were many good Christian folks in Germany during the thirties who stood idly by and let the Nazi monsters take over their country. We can’t let that happen here. Too much is at stake. We are at a pivotal point in our nation’s history. If we are to remain a Christian nation then the Christians have to get off their backsides and fight harder than the enemy.
We need to do more than just stay home and pray.
The clock is ticking.
