As a community newspaper that focuses on local happenings, the News does not often publish Associated Press stories, but like most publications, we have long followed the AP Stylebook.
Most of the book’s rules for grammar and punctuation – along with guidance for style and usage – are straightforward and ensure newspapers are consistent. For example, we abbreviate Street (St.) and Boulevard (Blvd.) but not road or drive. We spell out words for numbers less than 10 and use digits for those 10 and larger.
