COLUMN: What’s behind the ACLU name?

-A A +A

By JIM ADKINS, Guest Columnist

A lot of ink has been spilled by The News lately about the ACLU. I thought I would weigh in and tell why so many people, including myself, find this organization so loathsome.

Let me first say that the use of the term “civil liberties” in the name of the ACLU is one of the most profound uses of doublespeak in the English language. It is anti-God, anti-American and anti-family and civil liberties be damned if they get in the way of the ACLU’s schemes.

Roger Baldwin founded the ACLU in 1920. Here is a direct quote from him: I am for socialism, disarmament and ultimately, for the abolishing of the state itself … I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.

Eleven years after the ACLU was formed, the U.S. Congress reported: “The American Civil Liberties Union is closely affiliated with the communist movement in the United States, and fully 90 percent of its efforts are on behalf of communists who have come into conflict with the law. It claims to stand for free speech, free press and free assembly, but it is quite apparent that the main function of the ACLU is to protect the communists.”

A shared goal among the Communists and the ACLU is the repression of religious liberty; principally the free exercise of Christianity. The ACLU has an agenda to have the United States reflect an atheist viewpoint in its laws and public spheres.

Many might argue that the organization started out poorly but it has evolved into a something different. OK, let’s take a view of the causes that the ACLU has championed over more recent years. Funded mostly by left-wing organizations, it devotes itself exclusively to issues that are important to political liberals.

For decades, the American Civil Liberties Union and other radical anti-Christian groups have been on a mission to eliminate public expression of our nation's faith and heritage. By influencing the government, filing lawsuits and spreading the mantra of the “separation of church and state,” the opposition has been successful at forcing its leftist (liberal) agenda on Americans.

Their targeted attacks on religious freedom are more serious and widespread than you may realize. In courtrooms and schoolrooms, offices and shops, public buildings and even churches … those who believe in God are increasingly threatened, punished, and silenced.

Almost anywhere in America where you hear of a political or legal attack on religion or Christian moral principles you will find that the ACLU is behind it.

“America,” wrote Joseph Stalin,” is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.”

Not convinced? The ACLU stepped in to defend The North American Man-Boy Love Association, which advocates and supports sex between homosexual men and underage boys. In other words the ACLU proudly defends an organization that exists to propagate the rape of children.

The ACLU is largely responsible for banning school prayer. They fight for abortion and are largely responsible for 50 million deaths of the unborn. Ironically, they oppose the death penalty under all circumstance; mass murder, serial rape, treason, etc. Oops, unless it is a baby in the womb, then by all means, kill it.

The ACLU foundation of San Diego succeeded in its legal effort to dismantle the Mt. Soledad veteran’s Memorial Cross, a landmark for over 50 years. The ACLU of Southern California also fought to obtain an order dismantling a cross that had been a World War I memorial in the Mojave Desert since 1932.

Oh, and Perry County Catholics, here’s one for you. The ACLU has declared an unholy war against your core moral beliefs. They have contacted federal health officials in the Obama administration urging the government to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions.

No matter how low the filth slides, the ACLU is there to defend it. Nasty, obscene, filthy or unpatriotic, they are all over it. Only a Constitution that can be stretched, twisted and tied in knots could support most of the causes advocated by the ACLU.

Today’s world is turned upside down. The world of our fathers where good and evil were obvious, where patriotism, Christianity and right and wrong were evident is gone. Today’s world is all about political correctness, and biblical correctness forgotten – largely because of agencies like the ACLU.

While I’m here. The Establishment Clause in the First Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion.” There is no clause in the Constitution demanding the separation of church and state. None. Thomas Jefferson coined that phrase in a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802.

The idea of the separation of church and state has been turned upside down in modern times. The original idea was to protect the church from the state, not the state from the church. As proof of this statement, merely turn to your history books.

In December 1800, a few weeks after moving into the capital, Congress decided that the building should also be used as a church building.

In 1803, John Adams recorded, “Attended public service at the capital, where Mr. Ratoon, an Episcopalian clergyman, preached a sermon.”

Jefferson attended church services at the capital throughout his presidency.

It is obvious from these and other historical references that the founders intended for the U.S. to be a Christian nation.

The ACLU and its godless adherents are determined to overthrow our Christian heritage and turn our nation into a society of wanton heathens.

Shame on them!

Isaiah 5:20 reads, “Destruction is certain for those who say that evil is good and good is evil.”

The second part of the Establishment Clause states: “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

If your religious rights or freedom of speech are being violated, contact the ACLJ-the American Center for Law and Justice. They are the good guys.
