Having newly joined the ranks of the septuagenarian crowd, I’m reminded of an oft-repeated phrase of a remarkable teacher from my long-ago days at Brescia College.

Sister De Chantal, a spunky Ursuline nun, was in the habit of prefacing her statements of belief with the words, “At this stage of my development.” In this subtle way, she managed to teach her pupils that what we know and understand about life continuously evolves as we age and mature. What seems obvious today may look quite different tomorrow.
