COLUMN: Local students score well on IREAD

Research suggests students learn to read through the third grade. In fourth grade, students “read to learn” as this most important skill is required and assumed in order to learn new and more complex content. For instance, students must follow instructions to do worksheets, math is taught as “word problems” and students begin to learn history and science from written material.
