Tell City residents can dispose of large items, with some exceptions
TELL CITY - It's time for Tell City residents to clean out those attics, garages and basements in search of items they no longer want. Tell City's annual weeklong cleanup is set for next Monday through Thursday, June 9-12.
Miscellaneous items will be picked up on residents' standard trash-pickup day and collected at the same time as bagged trash. No recyclables will be picked up next week and residents' usual weekly trash will still need tags.
Past-year limits on the volume of items picked up from a single home have been removed this year. However, as in year's past, no tires will be collected by city crews. Also prohibited are paint cans, batteries and other toxic items and very heavy furniture such as hide-a-beds.
Refrigerators, air conditioners and anything else containing Freon won't be picked up, nor will scrap wood or roofing materials, including asphalt shingles.
Tell City residents will be able to drop off items themselves in bins located at the city garage Wednesday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m.
The weeklong cleanup is for Tell City residents only and non-residents will not be able to drop off items in the bins.
For more information on what can be disposed of, call the city's trash-collection department at 547-3266 or city garage at 547-3222.
Residents will see an extra $3 charge on their June water, sewer and trash bills to help cover costs of the cleanup.
