CANNELTON – Eric Harris, teacher and yearbook sponsor for Cannelton High School, informed the News an Aug. 5 school-board report was inaccurate in saying a liquor-store ad was rejected. School-board member Barbara Beard said during a July 18 meeting she was told a $100 check was returned to Pantry Plus because it’s a liquor store. Harris said he did question the propriety of running the ad, but decided to accept it. “I accept ads from any local businesses wanting to contribute to the yearbook,” he noted.

Pantry Plus owner Vishva Kalra told the News Wednesday, “I don’t want to advertise liquor to younger people,” so he intended to use only the store’s name in the ad.

As the News reported Aug. 5, Beard and other school officials said they felt any legal business can advertise in the yearbook.
