Christmas parade to ring in holiday season

CANNELTON – The Cannelton American Legion and Auxiliary Post 142 will sponsor the annual Cannelton Christmas Parade Friday.

Santa will take a break from his Thanksgiving celebration to attend Friday’s Christmas parade in Cannelton. He’ll pose for photos after the event at the OAKS Center. The jolly elf and his reindeer will be back in the county for Tell City’s Christmas parade Dec. 1.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with lineup getting under way at 5. 

The parade will start at old Indiana 237 and Seventh Street (Highway 66), head east on Seventh Street, turn south onto Washington Street and will end at the floodwall. There will be an appearance by Santa. 

Businesses, churches and community groups are invited to enter the parade. Awards will be presented in three categories, civic, commercial and community. 

Following the parade, Santa Claus will be at the OAKS Center in Cannelton for pictures. Those wishing to pose with Santa are asked to take their own cameras.

The Cannelton Foundation will sell 175th anniversary souvenirs at the Gazebo Park on Washington Street during the parade.
