Memorial Day ceremonies for deceased Perry County veterans, including service members killed on active duty, will be held throughout the area Sunday and Monday.

Services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939, Tell City American Legion Post 213, Harry G. Myers American Legion Post 142 of Cannelton and St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366, in conjunction with post auxiliaries and Sons of the American Legion.

Memorial services will consist of a brief ritual, eulogy, prayers, placing of memorial wreaths, a three-volley salute and a recital of "Taps."

American flags will be placed on graves of each known veteran. Anyone wanting a flag placed for a friend or relative should contact the veterans group that is scheduled to visit that cemetery.

The public is encouraged to attend the Memorial Day services.

Following the ceremonies Sunday, there will be a joint service in Tell City's City Hall Park by the Tell City American Legion and VFW. City leaders voted Monday to close Main Street in front of the park for the service.
