CANNELTON - People who've decorated St. Michaels Cemetery gravesites should remove anything on the ground in preparation for the summer mowing season, Cemetery Sexton Charlie Davis said Monday.

"Toward the end of next week, we'll mow the cemetery," he said at a regular board of public works and safety meeting.

Any decorations on headstones can remain, he added.

He also said city workers will look for properties with grass more than 9 inches tall and compile addresses to receive letters noting they're in violation of a city ordinance. Residents who get the letters will have 10 days from their receipt to improve their yards' appearance.

Trash will be collected Tuesday of Memorial Day week for those whose normal pickup day is either Monday or Tuesday.
