TELL CITY—Cash Waggner & Associates exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning to beat Ohio Valley Gas 11-5 and clinch the regular-season title in Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league Tuesday.
Cash Waggner improved to 6-1 with two games left that will be made up Friday.
Second-place Ohio Valley Gas slipped to 4-3. Even if both teams finished 6-3, Cash Waggner would win the league by virtue of beating Ohio Valley Gas twice.
Ohio Valley Gas led 4-3 going into the fourth inning Tuesday and quickly got two of Cash Waggner’s first three batters out that inning.
But the next eight batters reached base before Ohio Valley Gas recorded the third out.
Shannon Bryant doubled to left field to score pool player Courtney Berger with the tying run.
Bryant scored the go-ahead run as Monica Bartley reached base on an error by the first baseman.
Bartley then came around to score on three wild pitches.
Natalie Sanders walked and Mollie Ingle reached base when the shortstop couldn’t corral her pop-up.
After a walk to Madison Gilliland, Jordyn Vogt singled home a run.
Gilliland scored on a wild pitch and Vogt scored as pool player Cadie Hauser reached base on an error.
Berger hit an RBI double to center to cap the rally.
Bryant went 3 for 3 with two doubles to lead Cash Waggner’s seven-hit attack.
She also pitched a one-hitter for the win, walking eight and striking out four.
Pool player McKenzie Kennedy beat out a grounder to the shortstop for Ohio Valley’s only hit.
Legacy Financial beat Webb Wheel Products 10-4 in Tuesday’s other game.
Monday’s games were rained out.
The regular season was scheduled to end Wednesday with Webb Wheel playing Ohio Valley Gas.
The league’s single-elimination playoff tourney is tentatively scheduled for Monday.
