None of the 34 students injured; driver of car OK, too, but cited for driving left of center
CANNELTON - A 19-year-old driver who collided with a Perry Central Community School Corp. bus Monday morning was cited for driving left of center but neither he nor anyone aboard the bus was hurt.
Nicholas R. Parrott, 19, of 7695 Triplett Road, Cannelton, suffered a minor cut and complained of pain after the accident but declined medical treatment. Deputy Sheriff Daymion Marsh said Parrott was traveling on Triplett Road, less than half a mile from Indiana 66 when he struck the 2004 International bus near a curve. The front of Parrott's 1988 Buick LeSabre was crushed by the impact. The front bumper on the bus was pushed in but the bus was able to be driven from the scene. Students were transported to Perry Central on another bus.
None of the 34 elementary and high-school students were hurt. The driver of the bus, Patricia A. Putnam of Tell City, also escaped injury.
Marsh said Putnam saw the car traveling toward her on the gravel road before the impact and had come to a complete stop by the time of the impact. Perry Central's buses have carried two-way radios for years, allowing Putnam to immediately relay news of the accident to school officials.
