CANNELTON - Cannelton third-graders donated a new grooming kit to the staff of the Perry County Animal Shelter Friday, then enjoyed a tasty thank-you offered by the staff.

The grooming kit was purchased through a Learning to Give grant sponsored by The League, according to their teacher, Joan Goble.

The organization encourages youngsters to contribute to their communities through projects such as planting trees and collecting food for the hungry

"The students wanted to help promote animal adoption at the shelter, and they knew a grooming kit would be most useful to that end," Goble said. "They also donated dog and cat treats and toys. The shelter served the students cake and ice cream and also gave each of them a Perry County Animal Shelter T-shirt as a thank you for their efforts in helping to promote the animal-shelter adoptions."
