CANNELTON – The Cannelton High School Class of 2014 will gather this weekend to accept their diplomas, turn their tassels and move on to the next chapter of their lives.
Valedictorians Mikah Hemmings and Marvin Walls and salutatorian Michael Joseph Miller will address classmates, family and friends during Saturday morning’s commencement exercises at the Cannelton Community Center. The event will begin at 10 a.m.
Hemmings is the daughter of Scott and Charlene Hemmings of Tell City. She is a 21st Century Scholar and recipient of the Loren and Bernice Scholarship. She was twice-awarded athlete-of-the-week, was all-country most valuable player and all-tournament MVP for volleyball. In addition to volleyball, she played softball, basketball and was a track team member. She was involved in Spanish club, art club, student council and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Indiana State University.
Marvin Walls is the son of Shannon Sturgeon of Evansville and Steve Walls of Santa Claus. His scholarships and honors include 21st Century scholarship, Cecil and Olive Foster and ES and Edith Letter scholarship and Purdue Promise. He is the senior year class president, a four-year member of student council, a three-year member of the National Honor Society and a one-year member of the Teen Advisory Group.
He was a member of the track and golf teams for one year, baseball for three years and basketball for four years.
He plans to attend Purdue University's College of Pharmacy.
Michael Joseph Miller
Michael Joseph Miller is the son of Kathy and Michael Miller of Cannelton. He is the recipient of the Schergens scholarship, a three-year member of the National Honor Society and a three-year student council member.
He was involved in art and Spanish clubs for two years, baseball for one year and basketball for four years. He plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to study engineering or law.
