CANNELTON - Cannelton Police Officer Mike Humphrey remains on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation that had state-police troopers search his home Dec. 7, according to the city's police chief, Kenny Kellems.
Documents normally available to the public in connection with police searches were treated as confidential in Humphrey's case. No one was arrested, no charges have been filed and the state police have refused to provide any information about the case.
Cannelton city attorney Chris Goffinet said Tuesday Humphrey could remain on paid leave indefinitely. "That's up to the chief," he noted.
Councilman Adam Goffinet and Cannelton resident Cindy Yaggi were named to the city's board of public works and safety, which oversees the police department at the incoming council's first meeting Jan. 7. That board is not scheduled to meet for the first time until Feb. 11. Humphrey declined to comment on the situation.
