Cannelton High School to crown homecoming royalty Saturday

CANNELTON – Cannelton’s basketball homecoming ceremonies will be Saturday at the Cannelton Community Center during the team’s game against Medora. The junior-varisity game starts at 5 p.m. and the homecoming activities will start at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Queen candidates
Samantha James is the daughter of Tommy and Jane James. She has participated in Spanish and art clubs, Student Council, Youth Day of Caring, National Honor Society, We the Youth of Perry County, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Pep Club and HOSA. She has played volleyball, basketball and softball for four years each and ran track for three years. James’ plans are to attend Vincennes University and major in nursing.
Sarah Powers is the daughter of Brett Powers and Lisa and Tally Havener. She has participated in National Honor Society, Student Council, Spanish and art clubs, Pep Club, Perry County Youth Day of Caring, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, We the Youth of Perry County, Hoosier Girls State Delegate and was named Cannelton’s DAR Good Citizen. She has played volleyball and basketball four years each and softball for two years. She has also been named to the All County Girls Basketball team her freshman, sophomore and junior years. In December of her senior year, Powers scored her 1,000th career varsity point. Her plans are to attend Indiana State University and major in criminology and criminal justice with a minor in fitness training.
Payton Reed is the daughter of Rob and Tiffany Reed. She has participated in Spanish and art clubs, Pep Club, Student Council and National Honor Society. She has played basketball and softball for four years and volleyball for one year. Reed’s plans are to attend college and major in physical therapy and athletic training.
Sara Whitworth is the daughter of Denisa Whitworth and Donald and Katrina Whitworth. She has participated in Spanish and art clubs, Student Council, Youth Day of Caring and Pep Club. She played volleyball for three years and ran track and cross country for two years each. She was also a cheerleader for two years. Whitworth’s plans are to attend Vincennes University and major in either nursing or culinary arts.

King candidate

Dylan Schneider is the son of Timothy Schneider and Melissa Conner. He has participated in Student Council, National Honor Society, yearbook and school newspaper, Youth Day of Caring, guitar club and is a very active member of the Berean Baptist Church. His favorite hobbies are singing and playing guitar. He played basketball for three years and golf for one year. Schneider’s plans are to attend Pensacola Christian College to major in mechanical engineering.
